- Preparing Your Pool for Leak Detection
1. Clean the Pool
-
Remove Debris:
Skim leaves, dirt, and debris from the surface and bottom of the pool. -
Brush and Vacuum:
Clean the walls and floor to ensure the inspector can see any potential signs of leaks or damage.
2. Check Water Levels
-
Stabilize Water Level:
Ensure your pool is filled to its normal operating level. This will help accurately determine if there’s a leak when monitoring water loss. -
Mark Water Level:
Use a piece of tape or a marker to note the water level on the pool wall, making it easier to monitor any changes.
3. Turn Off Pool Equipment
-
Deactivate Pumps and Heaters:
Before the inspection, turn off all pool equipment. This will help in pressure testing and avoid interference during the inspection process.
4. Inspect for Visible Issues
-
Look for Cracks and Damage:
Conduct a visual inspection for any obvious signs of cracks in the pool walls, floor, or tiles. -
Check Fittings and Fixtures:
Inspect skimmers, return jets, and light fixtures for signs of wear or damage.
5. Monitor Chemical Levels
-
Balance Chemicals:
Ensure that the pool’s pH, chlorine, and alkalinity levels are balanced. This helps prevent damage to equipment during the inspection. -
Avoid Recent Chemical Additions:
If possible, avoid adding chemicals right before the inspection, as this can affect dye tests and other detection methods.
6. Prepare Access for Inspectors
-
Clear Surrounding Areas:
Remove any obstacles around the pool, such as furniture, plants, or toys, to provide easy access for inspectors. -
Ensure Safety:
If there are pets or children around, ensure they are safely away from the pool area during the inspection.
7. Document Your Observations
-
Record Existing Issues:
Take notes or photos of any existing cracks, wear, or unusual water loss to share with the inspector. -
Keep Track of Water Loss:
If you’ve noticed any significant water loss, document when it began and any other relevant details.
8. Communicate with the Inspector
-
Share History:
Inform the leak detection technician about any previous issues or repairs, as this can guide their inspection process. -
Ask Questions:
Prepare any questions you may have regarding the inspection process or potential repairs.
